African Mountain Lodge

African Mountain Lodge is situated in the echoing foothills of the Namib Rand Nature Reserve, a vast reserve spanning 184,000 hectares of pristine Nambib Desert, painstakingly reclaimed for conservation to become the largest private reserve in southern Africa.

The Nambib is a word of immense solitude, of far horizons, arid desertscapes and jagged mountain heights. Its vastness and ever changing sunlit spaces will truely make you feel you are in the oldest desert in the world.

Yet for all its harshness and ruggedness, the Namib is known as The Living Desert. Despite the scarcity of rain, there are underground streams that feed some wildflower and trees that line the desert floor with its own brand of desert fauna. Hear in this endless beuaty live many of the animals not found anywhere else on Earth. There are over 115 bird species for you to observe and to idenify.

Ten stone and glass desert suites combine unprecedented sophistication with the stark beauty of the desert landscape. The air-conditioned and spacious rooms are designed to capture the splendour and solitude of the desert. Spaced well apart, each suite is a private haven with a shaded deck overlooking the far horizons of the Namib Desert.
