Winton House dates from the 15th century and is regarded as one of the finest houses of the Anglo Scots Renaissance. It is the focal point of a large lowland estate surrounded by farms and woodlands and overlooking the River Tyne. It is within easy reach of Edinburgh and the airport, with good road and rail networks. It is the family home of Sir Francis and Lady Ogilvy.
Winton House was built for entertaining guests and, when the restoration was carried out in 1620, craftsmen from the royal palaces were instructed to decorate the exterior and interior. As a result, the work is elaborate, though not to the degree of being opulent, and it is a very comfortable home to visit and live in. Francis and Dorothy Ogilvy are extremely genial hosts and Winton has a delightful air of peace and serenity.
