Duns is a historic castle built around a 1320 Pele Tower and gifted by King Robert the Bruce to the Earl of Moray. It has been in the ownership of the Hay family since 1696 and still remains very much a family home. Redesigned in the 19th century in Gothic Revival style, Duns offers traditional hospitality overlaid by a strong sense of history.
As a private home, not open to the public, the Castle enjoys a serenity and timelessness, which is all too rare in the modern world. The family offers their home as a venue for private guests for lunches, dinners or residential stays. The essence of the arrangement is that those visiting are in every respect welcomed as guests in a private home and looked after by a professional in-house staff. Large areas of the old part of the house have been brought back to life with all the advantages of modern plumbing, wiring and computerized central heating.
